Garden maintenance is the steady work that keeps a yard looking finished. Cut grass, clean edges, weeded beds, shaped shrubs and fresh mulch. None of it is hard on its own. The hard part is doing it every week, at the right time of year, without skipping.
What a regular visit looks like
We mow, edge the walks and driveway, trim around the fence and blow off the hard surfaces. Then we walk the beds. We pull weeds, deadhead flowers that are done, and look for anything that needs attention, like a shrub that’s getting too big or a spot where the lawn is thinning out. If we see a problem, we text you a photo.
Why one crew for everything
When one company mows and another does the beds, things fall between the cracks. Who cleans up the hedge clippings? Who notices the grubs? With one crew, it’s one text thread and one person to ask.

Through the year
A garden maintenance calendar for Long Island
Long Island yards follow the weather, not the calendar. A warm March means an early start. A dry August means we raise the mower and leave the lawn alone. Here is roughly how our year goes.
- March and April: spring cleanup, cut back last year’s perennials and grasses, edge the beds, first mow once the grass starts growing.
- May and June: weekly mowing, fresh mulch, hedge trimming after the first flush of growth, weeding.
- July and August: mow higher, water in the morning, watch for grubs and heat stress, keep the beds weeded.
- September: the best time for seeding and aeration, plus a feeding for the lawn.
- October and November: leaf removal, last mow, last feeding before the December 1 fertilizer ban, fall cleanup.

Every town here has its own rules for when yard crews can work. We plan our routes around them.
- East Williston: landscaping work Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No Sundays or holidays. Gas leaf blowers are banned on Saturdays from May 1 to October 31.
- Garden City: landscapers need a village license. Work hours are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Mineola: landscapers need a village permit. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.
- Bethpage, Plainview and Hicksville (Town of Oyster Bay): Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. No Sundays.
- Albertson, Roslyn Heights and Carle Place (Town of North Hempstead): Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. No Sundays or holidays.
