Does your lawn need aeration? Here’s a quick test for lawn aeration in Nassau County yards: push a screwdriver into the grass. If it slides in easily, you’re fine. If you have to lean on it, the soil is packed tight. We’re Arnol MR Landscaping, a father-and-son crew, and we open that soil up so your lawn can breathe.
Loosen the soil
Kids, dogs, mowers and cars all press down on the soil. Over time it packs so tight that water runs off instead of soaking in, and roots can’t push down.
We use a core aerator. It pulls small plugs of soil, about 2 to 3 inches long, out of the lawn. The holes let air, water and food get down to the roots. The plugs sit on top and break down in a week or two. Leave them. They go back into the lawn.

When to aerate
Late August through September is the best time. Cool-season grass is growing hard, the soil is still warm and the holes fill in fast. It’s also the best time to overseed, so we often do both on the same day. Spring works too, but crabgrass also loves the open soil.
Where we work
We do lawn aeration for homes in East Williston, Garden City, Mineola, East Meadow, Levittown, Bethpage, Plainview, Hicksville, Albertson, Roslyn Heights, Carle Place and Westbury. See every town on our Nassau County towns list.
Yards that had work done, like a new patio, an addition or a new driveway, often have soil packed down by the equipment. Aeration once a year helps those lawns more than anything else.
Related services: seeding and overseeding, soil amendment, lawn fertilization and lawn mowing.

Once a year for most lawns. Lawns with a lot of traffic or heavy soil may benefit from twice a year, fall and spring.
